Athletes and Coaches Can Now File EB-1A and I-485 Concurrently for a Green Card
Sherrod Sports Visas is pleased to announce that concurrent EB-1A visas and I-485 adjustment of status applications are now possible based on the May 2020 visa bulletin. For the past few months, there have not been visas available for concurrent filing of EB-1A and athletes had to wait after filing the form I-140 to file the I-485 adjustment of status form later on. The EB-1A is the most popular choice for athletes and coaches because it does not require an employer, or employment at all, in some circumstances for permanent residence.
EB-1A and I-485 Concurrent Filing for Athletes and Coaches
We will be contacting our current and prospective clients with EB-1A self-employment-based visas aspirations to provide instructions to take advantage of the concurrent filing opportunities and the documentation required to proceed. Petitions that are serviced but not filed yet can simply add an I-485 petition for each beneficiary to the EB-1A petition. Petitions that are already filed can have the new I-485 petitions added to the case file by using the receipt number with the file.
EB-1A Immigration Lawyers for Coaches and Athletes
We highly recommend athletes and coaches who are already in the process of an EB-1A application to add the I-485 petitions so that they can receive work authorization and advance parole to obtain permission to travel while waiting for the petition to be approved. We also highly recommend persons thinking about pursuing an EB-1A visa petition to obtain the services of competent lawyers to file petitions during the month of May 2020 to take advantage of the concurrent filing period.
The form I-485 adjustment of status fees for each adult are currently $1,140. If the person filing the application is between 14 and 78 years of age, there is an additional fee for biometrics of $85 for a total of $1,225. The adjustment of status fees for children who are filing at the same time as parents and under 13 years old are $750 total because biometrics are not required for persons under 14 years of age.
