Options for Renewing P-1 and O-1 Visas for Athletes and Coaches

There are two options for renewing O-1 and P-1 visas depending on how much validity time  the applicant pursues on the I-129 O or P extension.

One Year P-1 or O-1 Visa renewal for Athletes and Coaches

If there are no material changes to  the original petition, which includes petitioner or contemplated activities, there is an option to file for a year-long extension. In this case the charge would be $2000 plus filing fees for the work. The legal fees are less because the petition does not have to reestablish the applicant’s eligibility as an O-1 candidate.

Three Year Extension for P-1 or O-1 Visa renewal for Athletes and Coaches

If the applicant would like to pursue a three year extension, the cost is the regular fee schedule plus filing fees. In this circumstance, a complete application would need to be prepared again because the applicant has to reestablish eligibility along with the other factors of the case.

What are the Filing Fees Associated with P-1 or O-1 Renewal’s for Athletes and Coaches

The filing fees are $460 for regular processing and you are fine to remain in the United States while it is pending. This is true even if the adjudication comes after the expiration of the visa that applicant currently has.  It is not advised to travel outside of the United States while the new visa is still pending. Faster processing is available under premium processing for an additional $2500 in government filing fees.

If your spouse needs to be included under your visa the cost would be $500 legal fees plus the $470 filing fee. There is no premium processing available for the derivative visa for the spouse.
